Supply Lists

 

Acrylic Painting

Artist Acrylic paint (not the craft paint)

Red: alizarin crimson and cadmium medium

Yellow:  cadmium medium or primary

Blue: thalo, primary or Prussian

White

Acrylic mat medium

These are the minimum colors needed. Liquitex value series is a good beginners brand and comes in kits with most of these basic colors. Other colors you may wish to purchase are burnt sennia, raw umber, yellow ochre, Thalo Green, and magenta.

 

Brushes: Bristle brushes in fourth, half and one-inch sizes (approximately), several sizes of sable style brushes, foam brush (two or three inch), and Q-tips.  Nice inexpensive brushes can be purchased at Ace hardware store on Richmond Rd. (get the white bristle with green wood)

 Pallet knife

Pallets: Several large plastic containers with lids, or a package of Styrofoam white plates or large white meat trays can be substituted.

 

Large size container for water (coffee cans, ice cream tubs)

 

Clear plastic ruler

 

Paper towels and cotton rags.

 

Stretched canvas, canvas boards, primed masonite, clay board, illustration board, or heavy watercolor paper.  You may want to try assorted surfaces.

 

 Optional: folding table top easel

 

Pencils and charcoal for sketching.

 

Oil Painting

Same as Acrylic expect substitute oil paint for acrylic, odorless turpentine for water, glass jars with tops for container,

 

Pastel Supplies
Pastels come in different hardest and many different sets.  You can choice which ones meet your interests and budget.  I recommend the following:

Nupastels Sticks, box of 12 or more

Soft Pastels,  box of 12  or more

Pastel or Colored pencils

9x12 or larger pastel paper, assorted colors (these come in pads or individual sheets)

Sheet of medium grit sand paper

Workable fixative

Course Fee: $125, Members $110
Draw still life, landscapes, flowers, animals and portraits using both soft and hard pastels, and colored pencil. Learn how to use line, value, and color to show form and space. Learn  new techniques, adding other mediums, using the power of white, cool,  warm, and complimentary colors, adding emotion, painting portraits, landscapes, and animals, finishing the painting, miniatures, and other topics.   Work from still life provided or from your photos and ideas.  Open to all levels of experiences.

Sculpt the human face, figures, animals, wall hangings and containers with boneware, self-hardening clay. Learn hand-building techniques and 3 dimensional design while enjoying the relaxing power of clay. Finish your dry pieces with paint or stains.
Notes:  A $15 supply fee includes clay, tools, and paints.
